The Association of Military Surgeons of the United States grew out of the Association of Military Surgeons of the National Guard of the United States. Conceived by U.S. military surgeon Nicholas Senn (1844-1908), it was formed at a meeting of 50 U.S. National Guard surgeons in Chicago on September 17, 1891.
